CHARACTERISTICS: elongated body and long tail ending in a mesh of long black hairs; short limbs; back with meshed brown and white hairs and darker limbs; narrow head and pointed snout; ears small and round.
FOOD: birds and small mammals, snakes, amphibians, fishes, crustaceans and occasionally eggs and carcasses.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: active all year; burrows are holes dug in the ground; originating from North Africa but present in Iberia for centuries; lives in territorial family groups; endowed with a very keen sense of smell.
