CHARACTERISTICS: gray (males) or brownish (females) dorsum with a zig-zag pattern; triangular head; small and numerous cephalic scales; snub nose; solenoglyphous.
FOOD: small mammals, reptiles and anphibians, passeriformes and insects.
ECOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR: terrestrial; ovoviviparous; normally runs aways when threatened, but can also whistle and try to bite; its venom can be fatal to humans.
